# Design notes (landing and verify pages)

Pages studied on 2026-10-23 (fetched with curl; observations are from the fetched HTML):

| Page | What it does | Lesson for Wayreceipt |
|---|---|---|
| https://htmx.org/ | Title "high power tools for html". First screen is one plain sentence on what it does, then a size/dependency fact ("~16k min.gz'd, dependency-free"), then a "quick start" code block. Plain lowercase section headings: introduction, motivation, quick start. | Say what it is in one sentence, back it with a checkable fact, then show code. No hero art. |
| https://sqlite.org/ | Tagline "Small. Fast. Reliable. Choose any three." Text-first page, a dense link list, two scripts total. | A text page with good links loads instantly. Short, specific claims age well. |
| https://letsencrypt.org/ | Headline "Encryption for Everybody", subline with a concrete number of websites, then "Get Started". Statistics link to a stats page. | Numbers only if real and linked to their source (our /stats). We have no usage numbers yet, so we show none. |
| https://deno.com/ | Install command is near the top ("Install Deno ..."), with a copyable shell line; eight code blocks on the page. | Put the snippet next to the headline, not below the fold. |
| https://github.com/FiloSottile/age (age-encryption.org redirects here) | README leads with a one-line description, then a terminal example of real usage, then explicit limits. | Show a real artifact (an actual receipt that verifies), and state limits plainly. |
| https://www.sigstore.dev/ | Returns a JS loading shell ("Loading...") with no content in the HTML. | Counter-example: our pages must render without JavaScript, except the verifier itself. |

Decisions:
- Headline from the Strategist, unchanged: "Proof your agent delivered. Signed by both sides. Checkable by anyone, free."
- Above the fold: a 3-line snippet and a real countersigned receipt (examples/countersigned.json, produced by scripts/make-examples.js, verifiable on /verify/).
- The limit ("proves the file arrived, not that it was any good") sits in a bordered note right under the lede, not in small print.
- No gradients, no icon-card rows, no testimonials, no stats, no emoji, no pricing or buy buttons. System font stack, one stylesheet, no web fonts, no images. Only /verify/ loads JavaScript.
- Colours: near-black text on off-white, one link blue, state colours (green, amber, red) only in verify results. Contrast checked by Lighthouse.
- Banned words checked by `npm run lint:copy` (see scripts/check-copy.js).
